Uh, you will see it on level 5 toons if they let you transfer/use the Tomes on characters other than your own... No one knows quite how they work or if they're bounded to your character that found them.
Imagine if you could sneak a Tome back into Presearing.... that would be worth an insane amount of cash! (I know you can't anymore / for a long time, but imagine if you did get one in Presearing!)

The poor people in Japan, Taiwan and Korea will now have a chance to go to UW and FOW.

Darksun, you could give the Tomes to a lower level character.
That said, a level 5 Elite is still not powerful. It's not like you're running your level 5 to Droks for max armor, then going back...
Hell, by the same argument, they should stop letting people level up to 20 in pre-searing. That's not fair either! /sarcasm

Observation of the day folks!
Favor != Access to UW/FoW.
This is a huge benefit.

Well, nobody will have them in pre-sear and who cares if people have SS post sear? Anyone who could give themselves SS would have to have it unlocked already. Perhaps there will be an increase in PvP edition sales? Honestly though, what in the world is PvE balance? As long as it is possible to kill the mobs and you have fun who cares if you're doing it with SS or SF or any other elite that you "shouldn't" have at lvl 5?

*rolls level 1 necro*
*double clicks on tome*
"You must be a higher level to use that item."
*ragequits*
I could very well see that as the solution. Of course, your "they should stop letting people level up to 20 in presearing" argument is very solid as well... certainly low level areas will be easier for a level 20, but that certainly didn't break the game.

some people are saying its gunna be unfair on new characters if they have the skills from a tomb. i dont recon it will inbalance it at all reall as youve gott complete the game atleast once anyway, so it wont ruin the game for you. Try using the skill properly at lvl 5?

Justa possilbe imbalance to the game, making it a bit too easy. But, yeah, not a biggie anyway. It's all about having fun.

I see what you're saying. I was under the impression that these were static objects, useable only in hardmode towns. I suppose I should assume they are just regular, tradeable items.

I'm right there with you...if you're doing Vanquisher, you might as well do GMC as well. Seems almost silly to do one without the other, since you're basically clearing every inch of the map anyways.

So exciting, I (and by I I mean everyone) can't wait!
Anyone notice that image of Kryta with the hard mode icons? Interesting. I haven't figured out the code yet.
I guess the swords are still the same - left is mission, right is bonus. The shield is now a helmet - yellow = hard mode done? (Because note the mission, D'Alessio Seaboard, which lacks swords, lacks a yellow helmet)
Might be less stressful on my brain (which I need to save for hard-mode action later) to wait until the update reveals it.
The fact sheet was posted about 3 hours ago (according to the RSS feed). Can't be much longer!

It says you can then acquire an unlocked skill. In other words you did work for the skill at some point before. Though yeah, that does still make it fairly easy. But it all depends on the droprate of the tomes.
It's like back before SoC gave you EXP. My ranger and warrior, who both did most of their capping before it was implemented, missed out on a ton of EXP. Meh.

Dang it, looks like I'm gonna try hard mode against my will bc of all these cool things. I'm a lazy part time adult player with 10 characters, looks like I might have to drop a tv show to do this stuff. I too hope it's not as hard as DoA.

This could be one of the best updates ever. Easier access to skills (since this is a massive 3 campaign game with skills all over the place that you have to capture over and over again), bigger benefit for PvPing as a PvE toon (essentially, you can use Balthazar faction+tomes to learn new elite skills), and of course, a way to access UW and FoW without favor. If this fixes soul reaping, mesmers, and Paragons, it would be the greatest update ever by far. But let's not get carried away I suppose.

Hardmode will hopefully be good and not lame DoA style. I can't wait to do THK and FoW in hardmode

My 7th level ranger with all the pre-Searing skills in Ascalon City unbalanced the early game. What's the problem here?

Why are they offering increased EXP? Seems kinda pointless, and kinda ironic considering the release of skill tomes.

Maybe the tomes will still require a skill point.
